SkinMedica Rejuvenize Peel FAQ

  • Rejuvenize Peel™ is appropriate for patients with moderate to severe skin imperfections that result from skin aging and sun exposure, such as fine lines and wrinkles, uneven skin tone and texture. Rejuvenize Peel™ also address skin unevenness that can be caused by acne scarring or pigmentary changes.

  • The complete treatment is expected to take 45 minutes, which includes ample time to address any questions you may have, and a discussion on your post peel care. The actual application procedure is approximately 20 minutes. Tolerance to the procedure varies from patient to patient. Tingling or burning sensations are normal and expected reactions. A handheld fan can be used during the procedure to minimize discomfort, which usually subsides in a few minutes.

  • The degree of peeling may vary depending on the individual’s skin condition and degree of the damage. Peeling can range from mild flaking to peeling in sheets. Regardless of the amount of peeling, the skin is still sloughing off at an accelerated rate, which will result in the following benefits: improvement in the appearance of skin tone and texture, smoothness of fine lines and wrinkles.

  • After a Rejuvenize Peel™, treatment patients will notice an improvement of overall skin condition, diminishment in the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles, smoothness of skin texture and more even skin color and improved skin clarity.

  • Rejuvenize Peel™ can be performed on patients with dark skin. However, patients with deeply pigmented skin color should receive Vitalize Peel® first, and after they establish tolerability to Vitalize Peel®, they can receive Rejuvenize Peel™

  • Rejuvenize Peel™ can be repeated every 4-6 weeks

  • Multiple treatments may be required to achieve desired results. The number of treatments is based on initial level of skin damage, and can vary from 3 to 6.

Anti-Aging Facial FAQ

  • Anti-aging facial treatment helps fight the war against fine lines, wrinkles, hyperpigmentation, blemishes, loose and tired-looking skin. Anti-aging facials work as precautionary and preventative for those who are in their early 20’s and can help reverse the signs of aging for those 40+.

  • Some benefits of anti-aging facials and how they rejuvenate your skin are:

    Exfoliates

All facials include basic exfoliation; however an anti-aging one goes deeper. Sloughing away dead skin cells, dirt, and excess oils. Revealing fresher, cleaner and a more youthful skin.

    Moisturizes

Aging skin can often be dry and dehydrated with noticeable rough, dry patches on their cheeks, forehead and jawline. Anti-aging facials include emollient-rich moisturizers that help make your skin look and feel healthy and vibrant.

    Rejuvenates

Facial massages help to relieve tension while enhancing relaxation. They also increase blood circulation which improves the texture and tone of your skin, making it look smoother and younger.

    Improves skin health

Anti-aging facials introduce the skin to vital vitamins and antioxidants through skin care products and facial peels. Ingredients such as Vitamin C help to speed up skin cell turnover and restore a healthy complexion.

Reduces age spots & broken capillaries

If you have age spots or broken capillaries, light therapy can help restore and repair skin from the inside out. Invest in a series of treatments to see dramatic changes.

    Slows aging

Microneedlingor certain chemical and enzyme peels penetrate the skin to trigger natural processes within the body, including the formation of new collagen and elastin helping skin to restore it’s natural youthful appearance.

Deep Cleansing Facial FAQ

  • A personalized, deep facial spa focused on cleansing oily skin, clogged pores improving the clarity of your skin.

  • The deep cleansing facial is most effective for individuals with severe acne and excessive oil on the face. These are two outward signs of skin that is dirty and in need of cleansing beyond the outer layer.

Individuals suffering from severe acne or oily skin are the prime candidates for this treatment. This can consist of anyone from teenagers to adults, or anyone who wishes to reduce the size of their pores and improve the smoothness and appearance of their skin.

  • The treatment works by safely steaming the face to open the pores, which is then followed by an extraction of clogged pores. A mask may then be applied to improve the skin’s surface and underlying layers. If you are interested in deep cleansing treatments, the skin experts at Forefront Dermatology can develop a treatment plan that is safe, effective and personalized for your health needs and the condition of your skin.

  • Many clients with acne are tempted to pick or pop. To achieve healthy, clear skin, it is important to keep your hands away from your face and let your professional esthetician do these extractions. Home extractions can damage your pores and spread bacteria, making the skin worse instead of better—you can break the pore wall inside the skin, pushing bacteria out into the surrounding tissue and spreading the breakout. Your esthetician knows how to clear the clogged pores without spreading infection and inflammation.

Facial Extraction FAQ

  • Comedones (blackheads) are the most common reason for facial extraction. A blackhead is not necessarily "dirt in the pores" as many people think. A blackhead is a pore that has become clogged with excess sebum and dead skin cells. The dark spot which is visible on the surface of the skin is oil which has oxidized and darkened on exposure to the air, like when you slice an apple and allow it to sit out for a while.

Pustules and pimples can also be extracted, depending on their size and depth. This often requires the use of a lancet to gently lift and remove the very top layer of the pustule to allow the contents to be easily extracted.

Some pores may not be ready to be extracted on the first attempt and may require several treatments before they can be cleared

  • First, the esthetician will cleanse your skin. Often a desincrustation fluid or enzyme is applied to the skin with steam for a few minutes, to soften the skin and prepare it for easier extractions. The esthetician may also use an ultrasonic device known as a skin scrubber, to loosen the impacted pores.

Extractions are performed under a magnifying lamp with a bright light, so that your esthetician can easily see the pores that need to be deep-cleansed. Eye pads or protective eyewear will be placed on your eyes to protect them from the bright light. The esthetician wears gloves, and applies gentle pressure around the pore to extract the contents. This may be done using the fingers (wrapped in gauze or cotton) or a special metal implement designed for this purpose.

  • Following extractions, an antiseptic/antibacterial product is generally applied to bring the skin back to its normal acid pH, and to aid in preventing post-facial breakouts. High frequency current may also be applied to the extraction area to kill bacteria and calm the skin. Often, a soothing mask is applied following extractions to help calm the skin, reduce redness and heal blemishes.

Microdermabrasion Facial FAQ

  • Microdermabrasion is an effective, non-surgical way to get rid of acne scars, fine wrinkles and sunspots by exfoliating the top layers of the skin. No chemicals or laser beams are used, only aluminum oxide micro crystals that gently sandblasts your skin, leaving it smooth and fresh. Microdermabrasion also stimulates collagen production, helping your skin rejuvenate faster than normal.

  • Your skin is first cleansed with a special cleansing gel or alcohol.. The aluminum oxide micro crystal flow is sandblasted through a small tube pressed against the skin. The tube also vacuums back dead skin cells and used micro crystals. After microdermabrasion, your skin is soothed with a special nourishing sun blocking cream, allowing you to go back to your daily routine immediately after treatment.

  • Aluminum oxide crystals are perfectly safe and non-toxic if ingested. However for patients who prefer not to have crystal microdermabrasion, our facility also offers a crystal free diamond tip variety.

  • A typical microdermabrasion face treatment takes between 20 and 30 minutes. However, if you want your neck or other parts of the body treated, it may last up to an hour.

  • If the goal is to get rid of superficial acne scars, blotchy skin, large pores, age or sun spots, fine wrinkles or uneven skin tone and texture, you are a perfect candidate for microdermabrasion. All skin types and colors can be treated with microdermabrasion. However, talk to a specialist about your medical history because there are conditions such as Rosacea which may make microdermabrasion unsuitable for you.

  • Microdermabrasion helps reduce fine lines and wrinkles, fight acne and remove acne scarring, even skin tone, diminish white and black heads, minimize large pores and revitalize dull skin. Microdermabrasion helps skin regeneration by increasing its elasticity and collagen production. The skin looks fresh and feels smooth as soon as treatment is over. With micro abrasion, there is no recovery time and no discomfort.

  • Your skin care specialist will give you a rough idea of the number of microdermabrasion treatments needed for best results. Major changes are obvious after the fifth session, even though most patients say they observed improvements after the first two. Generally 6 to 8 microdermabrasion treatments, scheduled around two to three weeks apart are recommended so the skin has time to recover between sessions. After the recommended number of sessions, you may have to schedule another abrasion once every two or three months, to maintain the effects.

  • Microdermabrasion treatments are virtually painless. Some patients have reported some itchiness or stinginess when micro crystals came in contact with their skin. You may feel some discomfort around the eyes, but as the treatment continues, your skin gets used to the crystal flow. Your face may appear a little pinkish in the first 24 hours, but you should not experience any itchiness or pain.

  • One of the advantages of microdermabrasion is minimum pre-treatment requirements. No pre-medication is needed but you may be asked to stop using aspirin-based medicines, Retin-A, Renova, Differin or glycolic acid products. You should not have any waxing, laser treatments or excessive sun exposure at least a week prior to treatment.

  • You can return to work the minute you leave the spa. If your skin looks reddish, as in mild sunburn, you can cover it up with some light make-up.

  • After a complete series of microdermabrasion treatments, you may want to keep your skin looking smooth and younger by scheduling a microdermabrasion-maintenance session once every 3 months.

Dermaplaning Facial FAQ

  • Dermaplaning is a quick, noninvasive, painless procedure in which surface dead skin cells are manually scraped away. Dermaplaning requires absolutely no recovery time. It increases cellular turnover, smooths and softens skin, and provides immediate results. This procedure is the most effective exfoliating procedure because it basically tricks the body into thinking it has an injury and needs to heal itself, immediately producing healthier, plump skin cells. Dermaplaning can be used on all skin colors. As an extra esthetic bonus, Dermaplaning removes the fine vellus hair on the face. This is important because this excess "peach fuzz" can trap oil and dirt which can lead to other problems with your skin. It also cause facial cleansers to be less effective. Once you scrap away the dirt, oil and dead skin cells, facial products and treatments are much more effective because they can penetrate the skin more easily.

  • After cleansing, toning and degreasing the face, your skin care specialist will gently scrape away the surface layer of dirt, oil and dead skin cells with a sterile surgical scalpel. Each area of the face, except for the nose and neck, is carefully scraped until properly "cleaned". After the procedure, special clinical products designed especially for your skin type and concerns, as well as UV protection, will be applied with a gentle facial massage. You will not leave with red or irritated skin, and you are free to reapply makeup at any time.

  • No, dermaplaning will not cause the vellus hair on your face to grow back any darker, thicker or faster because the procedure does not trigger hair follicles. The hair will return just as it is, usually in about two to four weeks.

  • Anyone who desires smoother, softer, healthier, more radiant skin. However, patients with active acne are not candidates for Dermaplaning.

Radio Frequency Facial FAQ

  • RF Skin Tightening uses radio waves to create heat. The heat strengthens collagen fibres in the skin, making the skin appear tighter and firmer.

  • During the RF Skin Tightening treatment, an applicator will be placed on the target area. This emits radio waves into the skin, creating heat as it does so. The heat does not exceed 45 degrees Celsius and is by no means unpleasant.

  • The treatment lasts around 20-30 minutes, but this may vary depending on the area treated.

  • RF Skin Tightening is a very safe treatment, meaning there are minimal side effects. The area may appear a little red directly after the treatment. However, this will quickly fade.

  • No. You may benefit from applying C-TOX Serum once a day after the treatment, which will work to stimulate the growth and strengthening of collagen fibres after the procedure, helping your results to last longer.

  • This is an important RF Skin Tightening FAQ. One session of RF Skin Tightening can yield visible results. However, most clients will benefit from a course of RF Skin Tightening treatments, but this will depend on the results that you want. All of this will be discussed with you during a consultation, where your body will be assessed, and your therapist will recommend the course of treatments that are right for you.

High Frequency Facial FAQ

  • All high frequency facial machines function by using a glass high frequency electrode to treat various contours of the face and body. When applied to the surface of the skin, a mild electrical current passes through the neon, or argon gas filled glass electrode, causing it to emit a subtle glow and buzzing noise. Depending on the inert gas that they are filled with, the electrodes produce either a neon red/orange or violet/blue light. Traditionally, acne prone skin is treated with violet and aging skin is treated with red, however, recent studies show that both are effective regardless of the skincare concern.

  • Your skin will feel and look better right away due to the increased circulation and collagenproduction but since the main objective of the HF Facial is to kill the bacteria that causes acne it will take a couple of days for the inflammation to improve once the bacteria is dead.

  • The facelifting results will last as long as the collagen production is increased and that should be around 28 days since your skin regenerates every 28 days.

  • A High frequency facial does not hurt and if it does that means you have to lower the settings on your device. You will feel a small buzzing sensation then the arc hits your skin but it should not be painful.
